Steve Onya

Dr. Onya is an industrial pharmacist and a public health epidemiologist, with over 30 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical and Biotech industries.

He is the MD/CEO of the Anchor Healthcare Ltd and a Former CEO of CHI Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Steve Onya has cognate experience and expert knowledge in drug and vaccine research and development, manufacturing, quality control, regulatory, marketing, and distribution. Steve Onya also has expert knowledge in public health policies across Africa’s environment settings. 

Steve Onya is one of the pioneers that led the Nigeria pharmaceutical industry to qualify some local pharma companies obtain the WHO-cGMP and product prequalification.

Steve Onya has worked closely with multilateral agencies like WHO, UNICEF, USAID, GF, and others. Steve Onya has more than 21 years’ cognate experience in regulatory affairs, including new drug development, application for new drugs, several clinical Trials, pharmacovigilance, and liaison with local and international regulatory agencies. Steve Onya supported UNICEF in the supply of essential medicines to more than 5 African countries.

He championed the interest to encourage local manufacturers in the production of API across the sub-Saharan Africa. He is currently offering advice to the local pharmaceutical industry in the development and manufacturing of API and vaccines. Dr Onya was recently appointed an EXPERT advisor on clinical trials in Nigeria by the national regulatory agency, NAFDAC.

Steve Onya holds a first degree in pharmacy from the University of Nigeria. A Master’s degree in Marketing from the University of Roehampton, the UK. He also holds a Ph.D degree in Public health with concentration in Epidemiology. Steve Onya also holds certificates in Viral immunology and vaccine development, including genetic testing and sequencing technologies from the Harvard University Medical School.
