He graduated in 1994 from Maastricht University (Law School) with a specialization in international trade law and human rights. He entered into the service of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996 and had initial postings in Ankara and Abuja and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague atthe Consular and Migration department.
In his multi-faceted career, that included representing the Netherlands at the EU, the World Bank, the EBRD, the WTO and ECOWAS, he worked among others in Afghanistan, Turkey, Switzerland (Geneva), Nigeria, South Sudan and Libya.
His fields of expertise are:
