Yedilfana Setarge Mekonnen

 

Dr Yedilfana Setarge Mekonnen is an Associate Professor at the Center for Environmental Science, College of Natural and Computational Sciences, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He holds a PhD from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and a Master’s degree from Addis Ababa University. His research focuses on a wide range of energy storage and conversion technologies, including rechargeable batteries, fuel cells, hydrogen storage, and solar cells. He employs cutting-edge computational methods to study the properties and mechanisms of these energy systems.

Dr Yedilfana has secured competitive research grants from prestigious organisations such as the International Science Programme Fellowship (ISPF), the Africa Center for Technology Studies (ACTS), the Center for Functional Nanomaterials at Brookhaven National Laboratory (CFN-BNL), the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and Addis Ababa University Thematic Research Projects. He has published over 40 articles and supervised numerous graduate students at Addis Ababa University.

In addition to his academic role, Dr Yedilfana serves as one of the two regional representatives to EURAXESS Africa, where he plays a vital role in fostering research collaborations and mobility between Africa and Europe. EURAXESS Africa supports African researchers and innovators by providing job, funding, and hosting opportunities and concrete information about mobility in Europe and beyond. He is also the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs at the College of Natural and Computational Sciences, Addis Ababa University, the founding President of the Computational Science and Engineering Society of Ethiopia, and Vice President of the Chemical Society of Ethiopia.

Dr Yedilfana has represented Ethiopia and Africa in several professional networks, including the Joint Undertaking African Materials Institute (JUAMI), the U.S.–Africa Initiative in Electronic Structure (US-Afri), ASESMA-Net, and the African Materials Research Society (A-MRS).
