Dr Anthony AYEKE

 

Dr Anthony Ayeke is a highly accomplished Public Health professional with extensive experience in leading and implementing health programmes in complex environments. He is currently the lead Programme Manager overseeing the Health portfolio and related interventions of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS in Abuja.

He studied medicine and further postgraduate courses in public health at the universities of Obafemi Awolowo, Ife; College of Medicine, Lagos; Harvard School of Public Health, MA and International Development Studies at the University of Sussex, UK.

Dr Anthony has proven experience in strengthening healthcare systems and crisis response as well as working in both health and education systems. He has practised general clinical medicine, taught community health to medical students and students of midwifery, worked as a national immunisation consultant for the then National Programme on Immunisation and coordinated delivery of Primary Health Care Services at State and LGA levels.

Dr Anthony successfully provided programmatic support to the ECOWAS region during the 2014 Ebola outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating adaptability and leadership in emergency situations. Anthony is passionate about improving health equity and access to quality care. He currently manages the EU country Health, Nutrition and Demography portfolios with notable projects in excess of EUR 83M, among which are the Special Measure to enhance manufacturing capacities and access to vaccines, medicines and health technologies in Nigeria, Strengthening Access to Reproductive and Adolescent Health and Safe Birth Africa (implemented in five African countries). He is married with children and a lover of Christ.
